How IFL Began Intercessors for Louisiana is a network of informed intercessors across the State of Louisiana who are call by God to pray for government so that His purposes will be accomplished in Louisiana. Early in 1999 State Representative Tony Perkins asked Dale Lee to help in the development of a state-wide intercessory prayer network that came to be called Intercessors for Louisiana (IFL). Taking Matthew 6:10 and 1 Timothy 2:1-4 as the biblical imperative, the initial goal was to identify, inform and network intercessors across Louisiana regarding state government issues. As 1999 ended, IFL had grown from a few intercessors to a state-wide network. God had prepared His people for the great work of interceding for our government. Dr. Mike Rusten visited Louisiana and shared his view that God has assigned His people stewardship in the following areas: 1. Stewardship over ourselves 2. Stewardship over our families 3. Stewardship over our churches 4. Stewardship over our civil governments Dr. Rusten stated that Christians seemed to have grasped the first three areas but have not seen their stewardship role in regard to civil government. Representative Perkins stated his conviction that the time has arrived for the church to step forward and embrace this God-given assignment. IFL is a significant first step in helping re-engage the Christian community in this all-important area of stewardship. Since February 2000, Mrs. Carolyn Hatcher has been directing IFL. She was joined in early 2006 by Todd Trahan as co-director. |
